I Come From – Anthology Launch Event

February 18th: 18:30 – 21:00 GMT
Nottingham C.A.N Presents: The ‘I Come From’ Poetry Celebration Event & Anthology Launch – with Guest Speaker Nadia Whittome (MP)

About this Event

Over the months of November and December 2020, Nottingham C.A.N worked in partnership with Rising Issue to deliver the ‘I Come From’ Poetry Project, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Over 16 online sessions alongside workshop leaders Ty Healy, Plentiful Poet, and Joe Andrews, the project worked with 42 participants exploring the themes of Mental Health, Race & Immigration and Gender & Sexuality.

Celebrating and bringing together the work of our participants, the team has worked hard with Illustrator Raphael Achache to design and press three anthologies – ‘I Come From a Mind What’, ‘I Come From a Body That’ and ‘I Come From a Country Where’. The legacy of the project will continue through the use of the anthologies in workshops with the wider community, aiming to breakdown barriers around our focused subjects and open up platforms of conversation within the community. We have also worked hard to film and edit a selection of poems to act as a toolkit to aid community-based organisations in projects around the subject we explored.

Join us for a night of online poetry, celebrating the hard work of all of our participants, and get your hands on our ‘I Come From’ Poetry Anthology Triology.

The event is free to attend (with a Zoom link), and we are delighted to announce that we will be joined by Member of Parliament (MP) for Nottingham East, Nadia Whittome, who has kindly agreed to be our guest speaker for the night.
